    Description

    The sides and top have stunning carvings of pyramids. palms and masks surrounded by inlaid pearl buttons. Some of the pearl is dark so it appears there are some buttons missing but there is not. This was an estate sale purchase so I do not know its history.  I am confident the wood is ironwood which is the national tree of Sri Lanka. With the palm tree, masks  and pyramid decoration I think it is likely from that region. It is hand made so the lid is not an exact fit, it wobbles a little. With the lid it measures about 11 inches high, 12 inches wide and 7 inches deep.  Exceptionally heavy it weigh 11 1/2 lbs. as shown in the pictures. Unique and beautiful piece.
